BHARAT JYOTI, SOCIAL AND CONSUMER PROTECTION ORGANISATION IN UTTAR PRADESH (Reg. No. 729/85-89)

Bharat Jyoti was established in 1986 with a vision and a mission to educate the underprivilged and to create awareness of consumers' rights and duties among the masses in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.

Bharat Jyoti is marching ahead in its educational field first by establishing a Bharat Jyoti Shiksha Kendra a school for the underpriviledged children specially for girls at Madion, Sitapur Road, Lucknow since 2008. Over 1500 students have been benefitted. The second building is under construction with over 80% building work being over as another school for the underpriviledged in the vicinity of village Majgara, Sultanpur Road, Lucknow. Here it may be noted that no grant has been obtained either from the Central Government or the State Government for the project.

It was one of the first NGOs to establish a Consumer Protection Cell in UP in 1986. Bharat Jyoti has come for the savior of a large number of aggrieved consumers by guiding and protecting them in the District Consumer Forum.

Vision

In this ever evolving and challenging global world and context of vested interests we initiate information flow/(exchange of ideas) processes among diverse communities from the academics to the underprivileged in consumer interest. Our special focus and concern is on communities who are weak and can't fight legally for their consumer protection rights.

Aims and Objective
  1. To uphold protect and develop the cultural fabric of India.
  2. To promote ideas that bring together scientists, technologists, sociologists, economists and intellectuals on a single platform for the development of a modern democratic India.
  3. To create conditions for greater vocational awareness, employment and self employment among youths for the underprivileged.
  4. To promote and encourage the participation of citizens in social, political, economical main stream with a national and secular outlook.
  5. To assist and cooperate with Government as well as voluntary bodies engaged in the Human Development Programmes and schemes of social welfare.
  6. To establish education institutions, hospitals, adult literacy centres and vocational guidance centres for the welfare of people.
  7. To motivate poor and under priviledged for the protection of their rights and help them in having better living standard for occupying dignified place in the society.
  8. To assist in implementation of various rural development programmes of State and Central Government.
RECOGNITION AND PRIZES

Uttar Pradesh Government has awarded Bharat Jyoti in recognition of the outstanding contributions in the field of Consumer Protection in 1994-95 and 1997-98 by Second and First Prize respectively along with monetary inputs.

Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Civil Supplies, Goverment of India has awarded National Award for Consumer Protection in 2001.

Bharat Jyoti has opened the Consumer Information centre to help and and support the aggrieved consumers in 2001 and presently we are having our centre at Lucknow.

Since 2007, Bharat Jyoti has been a part of Consumer Advocacy Group of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ( TRAI) and has been participating in their meetings as we are Registered CAG.
